\"Inside

This is the smallest swung fly in my arsenal, called the Inside Bender. It is a super quick and dirty fly that takes moments to tie. It is designed for steelhead but catches everything!<\/p><\/div>\n

Here is how to tie the Inside Bender:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Materials Needed:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Hook:<\/b> Small Shank<\/p>\n

Eyes:<\/b>\u00a0 Lead Eyes<\/p>\n

Loop:\u00a0<\/b> 20-50lb power pro<\/p>\n

Tail: <\/b>\u00a0 Brown or olive grizzly hen hackle<\/p>\n

Flash:<\/b>\u00a0 Cranberry holographic flashabou<\/p>\n

Head<\/b>:\u00a0 Clump of peacock eye ice dub–This is a new color that I like a lot. \u00a0It gives a small fly a big presence.<\/p>\n

Steps for tying this fly:<\/b><\/p>\n

1. \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/b>Put a shank in your vice and cover it with thread. \u00a0 A 3XL hook can be used as an alternative.<\/p>\n

2. <\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 Tie in a pair of bead chain or lead eyes at the front of the hook.<\/p>\n

3.<\/b> \u00a0 \u00a0 Tie an overhand knot in a piece of power pro, so that it creates a 3\u201d loop.<\/p>\n

4.<\/b> \u00a0 \u00a0 Put the loop of power pro through the bottom of the eye and come over to the top. \u00a0 Lash the power \u00a0 pro in with thread; the overhand knot will prevent problems if a big fish takes the fly.<\/p>\n

5.<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Tie in a grizzly hen feather, sloping down.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0<\/b> \u00a0 \u00a0 Tie in a few strands of cranberry flashabou over the feather.<\/p>\n

7.<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Add a clump of peacock eye ice dub, whip finish the fly and add glue.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 <\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 Attach a short, wide gap hook before fishing\u2026.<\/p>\n

Comments:\u00a0<\/b> A true guide pattern; this one is quick and dirty and is one of my favorite winter patterns.\u00a0 It is a great combination of simplicity and effectiveness. \u00a0 It is usually fished on the swing but also works very well bounced along the bottom and then swung out at \u00a0the end of the drift.<\/p>\n

As its name implies, it is frequently used on slow inside bends in the winter.\u00a0 \u00a0 It is designed for steelhead but often catches stream trout and just about everything else (walleye, pike, etc.).\u00a0 \u00a0 This fly likely imitates darters but regardless of what it imitates, it works!<\/p>\n
